New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde welcomes you to Stardust, Texas . . . where dreams come true and love is always right around the corner

Wanted: ghostwriter. Must be female, a baseball fan, and have a great pair of legs.

Ex-pitcher Rowdy Blanton never saw a woman he couldn't conquer or a team he couldn't beat. And now that he's off the field he's ready to tell all about when he played the field. So he chooses Breeanne Carlyle to do the job-she's got the requirements, but more important, there's something about her that makes him want to be a better man.

Convinced there's more to Rowdy than a good fastball, a wicked smile, and a tight pair of pants, Breeanne can't help but be tempted. After all, it's boring always being the good girl, and Rowdy dares her to be just a little bad. The stakes are high, but win or lose, this time Breeanne's breaking all the rules playing the game of love.

The old boy sat on his haunches, tail wagging, staring at Rowdy with love and concern shining in his big brown eyes.
At the sight of his bloodhound, the throbbing ebbed, his stomach settled and a helpless smile overtook his face. He scooted onto his side, and patted a spot beside him.
It took the bloodhound a minute to position his aging legs, but he managed the short hop onto the lounger. Rowdy wrapped his arms around his dog, hugged him tight, buried his nose in Nolan’s fur, and for one brief moment felt no pain.
He closed his eyes. Drifted back to sleep.
Found baseball again. Found the lost dream. Touched peace.
The seventh inning stretch. Blue skies. Balmy weather. “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Hot dogs. Roasted peanuts. Beer. Pretzels. Dot Races. The familiar feel of a leather glove against his right palm, the ball weighted in his left hand. Two hundred and sixteen stitches on a Major League baseball sewn in red cotton thread.
This was his whole world. His life. The ball. The diamond. The game.
A crack of the bat.
So went the duel between pitcher and batter. The declarative noise he both loved and hated.
Contact.
The batter knocking his left-handed screwball back at him. Line drive? Pop up fly? Foul ball? Home run?
He looked up, following the ball, but the blue skies disappeared, replaced mysteriously by velvet night.
Neon lights spiked the darkness. A woman’s perfume scented his collar. Loud music vibrated the ground. Distant laughter. A Dumpster. The fetid stench of garbage seized his nose. He was on the ground. Fetal position. Right arm held defensively over his face. Left arm separated from his shoulder at the socket, hanging useless at his side.
Ambushed.
Pain. Electric. Stunning. Shiny. Blue-white. Razor-toothed. Relentless. So much goddamn pain.
A man stood over him. Fierce. Swarthy. Extravagantly muscled. Thick black hair. Pit-of-hell black eyes. Flaring nostrils. The tattoo of a striking cobra inked on his right forearm. Louisville Slugger cocked over his shoulder. With each swing of the bat the snake undulated in the yellow glow of the alley security lamp.
His attacker yelling with every whack, again, and again, “Stay away from my wife!”
A crack of the bat.
A crush of bone.
And life as he knew it was over.

[Book Tour] Something Sweeter by Candis Terry #Review

Something Sweeter
Sweet Texas Series #3
By: Candis Terry
Releasing June 24th, 2014

Blurb

The men in Texas are hard to resist . . . Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole "'til death do us part" thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn't expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her "true love doesn't exist" theory all to hell. And they always promise . . .

Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet's favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she's a handful of trouble he can't deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

Candis Terry does it again. She creates a magical town of Sweet with a SWEET cast of characters, SWEET dialogue, and SWEET humor ̶ rolls it all up in a little ball to create one SWEET read.

I’ve been reading all of Ms. Terry’s books in this series and Something Sweeter did not disappoint. She has a real talent in creating realistic, well-rounded characters. They’re not just on-the-surface ̶ they’re like real friends. The Wilder men are definitely my kind of heroes, too.  Ex-military cowboys who love their momma and their families.

Jesse is our hero in this tale and I’ve loved him since book one. Finally I’ve gotten to read his story! The whole town thinks he’s a player ̶ and sure he might’ve been a long time ago, but now he’s ready to settle down, but he wouldn’t let anyone know that. Plus, he’s a vet. Any man who loves animals already grabs my heart.

The heroine in Something Sweeter is Allison, a city girl visiting her father who’s about to get married. She doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters and Jesse takes it upon himself to prove Allison wrong. Allison is awesome because she has just the right amount of sass that Jesse needs. She always have a great comeback to anything he says.

Despite their chance meeting and re-meeting and their insistence that they are not going to be involved, the two are a perfect match. It takes a bit of time for them to realize it, but in the end … well, you have to read it to find out.

FAVE LINES:
“In unspoken words, holy shit, became the understatement of the year.”

“Sometimes, when a girl met a new guy, she knew immediately whether she’d have to fake it or whether she’d get the real deal. Everything about Jesse Wilder shouted ‘satisfaction guaranteed.’”

“But sometimes he needed to just take a moment to breathe and feel the love.” Because sure as shit, something would pop up and threaten to put the kibosh on utopia.”

Ms. Terry has gained a dedicated reader with this series. More!

FIVE WINKS!

[Book Tour] Can't Help Falling in Love by Cheryl Harper - Building a Series Guest Post #giveaway

Can’t Help Falling in Love

By: Cheryl Harper

Blurb
The staff of Cheryl Harper’s Elvis-themed Rock’n'Rolla Hotel are back with a funny, fresh romance that goes undercover—under the covers!

As a former Marine, hotel manager Tony Ortega has plenty of experience assessing threats, and the hotel’s newest guest, Randa Whitmore, is a code red. Tall, blonde, and with legs for miles, she may look like his every fantasy, but he knows she’s not really visiting for the famed Elvis Week. Though dangerously drawn to his new guest, Tony will do anything to protect his job . . . especially if it means sleeping with the enemy.

Business strategist Randa Whitmore never meant to be undercover in Memphis. In August. Sweating her expensive spa treatments away. But snagging another perfect hotel location for her father’s empire means using all the tricks in her designer arsenal. And even though the sexy, tattooed manager seems oblivious to her charms, Randa’s prepared to bring out the big guns—just so long as she can stay objective and out of Tony’s muscled arms. After all, it’s just business, right?

Building a Series or How I Built the Rock’n’Rolla Hotel in my Mind

To write a novella for a Valentine’s Day submissions call, I stranded a perfectly happy couple of coworkers at an Elvis-themed hotel in Memphis, called it “Love Me Tender”, and did a dignified dance of celebration when it was included in the Kiss Me anthology. I never thought much beyond the lobby, the restaurant, and the themed hotel room. But then the most wonderful thing happened. An editor called to ask if I had any other stories set there. So I had to keep building that hotel!

In Stuck On You, we explore the hotel’s restaurant, Viva Las Vegas, and meet the owner,  amazing Willodean Jackson, but in Can’t Help Falling in Love, we meet the guy running the place. And when Marine Tony Ortega meets the newest hotel guest, incognito hotel heiress Randa Whitmore, he’s determined to keep a very close eye on her, even if he has to spend a lot of time at the hotel’s guitar-shaped pool considering the size of her bathing suit to do so. Luckily, a visit to Graceland sticks with a person and the King of Rock and Roll remains larger than life so I had plenty of inspiration. I’ve had the best time dreaming up the kind of place I’d like to stay in myself. I hope you enjoy it too. Here’s a little excerpt of Randa’s first impressions.

When Randa Whitmore pushed open the limo door, the furnace blast that was Memphis in August nearly knocked her over. She cursed under her breath about this latest assignment and straightened her shoulders before she slid over the cool leather seat to stand on the sidewalk. Thanks to the shade in this drop-off area at the front doors of the Rock’n’Rolla Hotel, the concrete was solid instead of tarry goo, as she’d expected. Eggs wouldn’t fry on the sidewalk; they’d sprout legs and run away screaming.

“Can I take your bags, miss?” Randa turned to see a tall young man wearing a tacky Hawaiian shirt. He had a pleasant smile even in this heat. His name tag said Sam.
She smiled her “Mother Teresa” smile and tilted her head to the side. “Why, Sam, I would appreciate that so much. Thank you. Could you take them on inside? I want to take a quick look at this beautiful hotel before I go in.” She pressed a tip into his hand and nodded as he turned to the sliding doors of the hotel. She made a mental note that Sam seemed like he would fit in well after the hotel changed owners. Since she hoped to be the one running the place, she planned to carefully evaluate all the staff.

“A very quick look,” she muttered as she forced herself out into the bright sunshine. The Rock’n’Rolla Hotel was boutique property situated right in the shadow of Graceland. Approximately ninety rooms, several small meeting areas, and a full service bar and restaurant . . . all of them dedicated to the King of Rock and Roll. She shook her head. When the W Group bought it and renovated it, all that would be washed away in a sea of beige sameness. Then it would match every other property of the W Group, and every member of her family for that matter.

She knew the routine very well. She’d been renovating properties like this for more than five years. The process for every one since she’d started in Fargo had been the same. But the Rock’n’Rolla Hotel was different. Up until now, she’d spent too much time wishing she had her own hotel to run. This time she was going to handle the renovation and then manage the first Whitmore hotel in Memphis so well her father would realize he should have given her a property of her own sooner. Maybe he’d even give up on marrying her to some hotel heir with more money than sense too. She couldn’t face another disappointing fiancé, another messy breakup, or another shouting match with her father. She wanted her own hotel, a place where she was in charge and people listened to what she had to say.

The façade of the hotel was acceptable. Pink brick. White columns. It looked a little like what she’d seen of the pictures of Graceland. But when she turned the corner to check out the parking lot and the rest of the hotel, she knew she was in for an experience. Instead of the brick, these outer walls were painted with black silhouettes of music notes, records, and the King, shaking his hips and doing his thing. Randa smiled as she tried to imagine hiring a mural painter who could translate pelvic gyrations. This one had done a damn good job. It was too bad it was about to be wiped away. This would never do on a Whitmore hotel.

[Book Review] Anything but Sweet by Candis Terry

Anything But Sweet
Sweet Texas Series
By: Candis Terry
Releasing June 25th, 2013

Blurb
A man who doesn’t like change . . .
The Wilder family is something of a Sweet, TX institution: between their yearly BBQ blow-outs and their Hardware and Feed store, they’re an institution—an institution that ex-marine Reno Wilder has tried to preserve, in honor of his lost loved ones. But it seems like he’s the only one who’s got any respect left for traditions when a new TV makeover show rolls in to renovate Sweet to bring in more tourists. Everyone is pleased except Reno—and this cowboy is determined to keep everything just the way he likes it.

A woman who wants to change everything . . .
Inquisitive. Stubborn. Smart. Drop dead gorgeous. That would be makeover show host and designer, Charlotte Brooks—the woman Reno has declared war against. And yet, he can’t seem to keep away from her, or to get her off his mind. Charlotte isn’t afraid to back down from a challenge—of any kind—and she’s promised to prove to Reno that change can be sexy, hot, and very, very sweet, if Reno and Charli learn to let go of their pasts and grab hold of a future full of promise.

I have to start saying I am in LOVE with this book and found a new favorite author! Anything but Sweet is full of sass, hurdles and lots of fun in a small Texan town. I love the little town Sweet as it reminds me of my early childhood days in a small Louisiana town. As most people know, in a small town comes small gossip -- everybody knows everything. That was no different in Anything but Sweet. I loved how the whole town rooted for Reno and Charli. They all knew that Reno had to come to his senses and eventually he did.

Now, on to Reno. I loved this brooding hero! He had so much hurt curled up in that heart of his, it was just waiting for the right woman to come along to fix him up. It took sassy, funloving Charli. Talk about opposites attract! Charli is from the big city, drives a Hummer and wears heels while fixing up Sweet on her reality show. She drags Reno in -- in the only way she knows how, bribery -- and he never parts. I wanted to reach into the book and just bearhug this man, because he hurt so much. Thank God Charli took it into her own hands to fall in love with the man!
I absolutely loved this book, so I give it 5 winks. I only give 5 winks to books I would reread, to books that have the right amount of fun, love and romance AND to book with the perfect characters. This is a great romance you don't want to miss!

What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer?
The incredible journey a couple takes to eventually fall in love and the knowledge that there is a happy ending.

One of your favorite quotes.
I love this one because it always reminds me that my future, my success, and my happiness all start with me.
“Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion, you must set yourself on fire.”

Who are your dream dinner party guests?
John Wayne, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Clark Gable. Seriously. Can you imagine the conversations? And maybe then we could put to bed all those “What happened” rumors.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
Without giving away anything, my favorite scene is at the Wilder Barbecue Charli knows she has to give it her all to reel Reno in. Her methods are fun, flirty, and a bit outrageous.

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
I would totally be Charli from Anything But Sweet. She is a go-getter. She’s optimistic, energetic, and she’s a design wiz. I’ve always been a glass half-empty kind of girl. Charli sees everything as a possibility and never thinks of any ending but success. And also I don’t think it would be too much of a hardship to end up in the arms of sexy Reno Wilder.

Flirting Questions:
Which actor or book character do you have a crush on?
I have an insane crush on Mark Wahlberg and Antony Starr (Lucas Hood in Cinemax’s show Banshee). And currently my book character crush would have to be Ty Garrison from Lucky in Love by Jill Shalvis or Rikar from Coreene Callahan’s Fury of Ice.

What’s your favorite body part of the opposite sex?
Shoulders. Broad shoulders always lead to strong arms that can hold you and keep you safe.

What does love feel like?
Climbing to the top of the world’s tallest roller coaster and speeding down the other side.

Hey, baby! What’s your sign?
I am a Virgo through-and-through!

When was your last kiss?
This morning as my hubby left to go river kayaking.

What’s an absolute no-no in a relationship?
Infidelity. Don’t even get me started on this one.

How did you meet your significant other?
We worked together for several years before he finally noticed me!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
A quiet candlelight romantic dinner where you can get to know each other better preferably near a lake, river, or ocean.

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be?
I’m less about actual locations and sightseeing than I am about atmosphere. Somewhere we wouldn’t have to be around other people, near a body of water where we could sit outside and sip a glass of wine, take some nice walks, and just spend time together relaxing.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
No. I believe that love comes when you get to know someone and you care deeply about them and their well-being. To me, love at first sight is all about the physical body and looks. I believe someone doesn’t have to look like Brad Pitt to be your soulmate and if you only go by first impressions you may be selling yourself and the other person, short.

Flirting Quickies:

White wine or red?
White.

Coffee or tea?
Coffee.

Sweet or salty?
Sweet.

Beach or mountains?
Mountains.

Winter or summer?
Summer.

Cat or dog?
Dog.

Twilight or Fifty Shades?
Twilight.

City or Country?
Country.

Morning or night person?
Night.

Christmas or Halloween?
Christmas.
