[Book Review] Anything but Sweet by Candis Terry

Anything But Sweet
Sweet Texas Series
By: Candis Terry
Releasing June 25th, 2013

Blurb
A man who doesn’t like change . . .
The Wilder family is something of a Sweet, TX institution: between their yearly BBQ blow-outs and their Hardware and Feed store, they’re an institution—an institution that ex-marine Reno Wilder has tried to preserve, in honor of his lost loved ones. But it seems like he’s the only one who’s got any respect left for traditions when a new TV makeover show rolls in to renovate Sweet to bring in more tourists. Everyone is pleased except Reno—and this cowboy is determined to keep everything just the way he likes it.

A woman who wants to change everything . . .
Inquisitive. Stubborn. Smart. Drop dead gorgeous. That would be makeover show host and designer, Charlotte Brooks—the woman Reno has declared war against. And yet, he can’t seem to keep away from her, or to get her off his mind. Charlotte isn’t afraid to back down from a challenge—of any kind—and she’s promised to prove to Reno that change can be sexy, hot, and very, very sweet, if Reno and Charli learn to let go of their pasts and grab hold of a future full of promise.

I have to start saying I am in LOVE with this book and found a new favorite author! Anything but Sweet is full of sass, hurdles and lots of fun in a small Texan town. I love the little town Sweet as it reminds me of my early childhood days in a small Louisiana town. As most people know, in a small town comes small gossip -- everybody knows everything. That was no different in Anything but Sweet. I loved how the whole town rooted for Reno and Charli. They all knew that Reno had to come to his senses and eventually he did.

Now, on to Reno. I loved this brooding hero! He had so much hurt curled up in that heart of his, it was just waiting for the right woman to come along to fix him up. It took sassy, funloving Charli. Talk about opposites attract! Charli is from the big city, drives a Hummer and wears heels while fixing up Sweet on her reality show. She drags Reno in -- in the only way she knows how, bribery -- and he never parts. I wanted to reach into the book and just bearhug this man, because he hurt so much. Thank God Charli took it into her own hands to fall in love with the man!
I absolutely loved this book, so I give it 5 winks. I only give 5 winks to books I would reread, to books that have the right amount of fun, love and romance AND to book with the perfect characters. This is a great romance you don't want to miss!

What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer?
The incredible journey a couple takes to eventually fall in love and the knowledge that there is a happy ending.

One of your favorite quotes.
I love this one because it always reminds me that my future, my success, and my happiness all start with me.
“Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion, you must set yourself on fire.”

Who are your dream dinner party guests?
John Wayne, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Clark Gable. Seriously. Can you imagine the conversations? And maybe then we could put to bed all those “What happened” rumors.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
Without giving away anything, my favorite scene is at the Wilder Barbecue Charli knows she has to give it her all to reel Reno in. Her methods are fun, flirty, and a bit outrageous.

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
I would totally be Charli from Anything But Sweet. She is a go-getter. She’s optimistic, energetic, and she’s a design wiz. I’ve always been a glass half-empty kind of girl. Charli sees everything as a possibility and never thinks of any ending but success. And also I don’t think it would be too much of a hardship to end up in the arms of sexy Reno Wilder.

Flirting Questions:
Which actor or book character do you have a crush on?
I have an insane crush on Mark Wahlberg and Antony Starr (Lucas Hood in Cinemax’s show Banshee). And currently my book character crush would have to be Ty Garrison from Lucky in Love by Jill Shalvis or Rikar from Coreene Callahan’s Fury of Ice.

What’s your favorite body part of the opposite sex?
Shoulders. Broad shoulders always lead to strong arms that can hold you and keep you safe.

What does love feel like?
Climbing to the top of the world’s tallest roller coaster and speeding down the other side.

Hey, baby! What’s your sign?
I am a Virgo through-and-through!

When was your last kiss?
This morning as my hubby left to go river kayaking.

What’s an absolute no-no in a relationship?
Infidelity. Don’t even get me started on this one.

How did you meet your significant other?
We worked together for several years before he finally noticed me!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
A quiet candlelight romantic dinner where you can get to know each other better preferably near a lake, river, or ocean.

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be?
I’m less about actual locations and sightseeing than I am about atmosphere. Somewhere we wouldn’t have to be around other people, near a body of water where we could sit outside and sip a glass of wine, take some nice walks, and just spend time together relaxing.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
No. I believe that love comes when you get to know someone and you care deeply about them and their well-being. To me, love at first sight is all about the physical body and looks. I believe someone doesn’t have to look like Brad Pitt to be your soulmate and if you only go by first impressions you may be selling yourself and the other person, short.

White.

Coffee.

Mountains.

Summer.

Dog.

Twilight.

Country.

Christmas.
