Blurb
The second book in a dazzling new Cupid, Texas series by Lori Wilde. Welcome to Cupid, where every wish for love comes true…

For years, a small group of women in Cupid, TX, led by Millie Greenway, have taken it upon themselves to keep the Cupid legend alive. Now Millie has roped her four disbelieving granddaughters into joining the cause.

Lace Bettingfield knows for a fact that the Cupid legend is bogus. As a shy sixteen-year-old, she left a letter at the statue and got nothing in return but heaps of embarassment when her letter ended up printed in the school newspaper.      TEN TOP REASONS TO VISIT THE TRANS-PECOS

The Trans-Pecos region of Texas is quite unique. It’s austere, beautiful, isolated, and quirky. My fictional town of Cupid is an amalgamation of three Trans-Pecos towns—Marfa, Alpine and Fort Davis. Here are ten top reasons to visit this phenomenal country besides the obvious Big Bend National Park.

1) Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys.

These guys are the real deal, none of the drugstore variety here. That is unless you count those talented New York artists who flocked here for the amazing vistas, started wearing boots and cowboy hats and embraced the land as their own.

2) Fort Davis

Fort Davis is restored fort from before the Civil War. The Buffalo Soldiers fought here and the first African-American to graduate West Point once commanded this fort. Fort Davis also experimented with using camels to traverse the mountainous desert terrain to see if they were better pack animals than mules. Turns out they weren’t.

3) The Marfa Lights.

For centuries, these mysterious and unpredictable lights that have appeared in the night sky near Mitchell Flats.  Although many scientists, scholars and amateur sleuths have sought to explain the causes of the lights, the origins remain an unsolved mystery.

4) Prada Marfa

A Prada store erected as an artistic statement in the barren desert of Valentine, Texas. It makes me smile every time I see it.

5) Hollywood Love

Several movies have been made here including, Giant, There Will be Blood and No Country for Old Men.

6) Center for Big Bend Studies

Located at Sul Ross University in Alpine, the Center for Big Bend Studies supports and promotes archaeological and historical activities in the Trans-Pecos. They hold summer field schools for students and volunteers who want to know more about archaeology.

7) MacDonald Observatory

The Davis Mountains boast the darkest night sky in the US. MacDonald Observatory offers educational programs and numerous stargazing parties. Just be sure to bring a flashlight to find your way back to your car. It is seriously dark out there.

8) The Terlingua Chili Cook-off

Visit in November and you can attend the Terlingua Chili Cook-off. We’re not just talking the best chili you’ve ever out in your mouth, but you’ll be treated to an excellent music festival as well. The likes of Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Waylon Jennings have played here.

9) Balmorhea State Park

An oasis smack dab in the desert.  Escape the heat by diving into the clear blue waters.

10) The Davis Mountains

While the Davis Mountains aren’t tall, they are impressive and do offer fine hiking. mountain-biking, picnicking, and bird-watch. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen and don’t be surprised when your cell phones don’t work.

So there you have it, ten good reasons to visit the Trans-Pecos besides Big Bend. With my new series, I hope I’ve done justice to this compelling land and I hope I’ve piqued your interest in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas. But be forewarned, if you come to visit, you’ll leave a piece of your heart behind.
