Even his sex partners are carefully negotiated plus-one arrangements, including his latest, the fiery bakery owner, Kat Thayne. But Sloane’s control is challenged when his mentor becomes seriously ill, and his need for Kat, his need to possess her at all costs, rivals only his single-minded goal of vengeance for the murder of his sister.

After surviving an attack six years ago, Kat Thayne escaped her fears in the protective world of her beloved bakery. Then Sloane Michaels storms into her life, making her feel beautiful, strong and sexy. Yet as Kat pushes her boundaries and uncovers a dangerous secret in her past, Sloane’s controlling side emerges. Worried that Sloane will possess her mind, body and soul, Kat fights to keep her hard won independence. But just as Sloane demands her complete surrender, she discovers he has a dark side that could destroy them both.

Jennifer Lyon grew up under the shadow of the Matterhorn at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. She attended Walt Disney elementary school and her very first playmate was her beloved dog, Duke, who was cast in the role of hero in all their adventures.

Clearly Jen was born to daydream. But it took her years to figure out how to turn her imagination into a career as an author. After marrying and becoming a full time mom to three sons, Jen launched her career with the award winning Samantha Shaw Mystery Series and other romantic mysteries under the name Jennifer Apodaca. Later, she took the name Jennifer Lyon, combined her love of witches, alpha males and sizzling romance into another award winning series, the Wing Slayer Hunters.

Jennifer has several new releases coming out this year.  THE PROPOSITION, the first book in her new Plus One Chronicles was just released on February 24 and following later in the year will be Book Two: POSSESSION - Coming 5/28/13 and Book Three: OBSESSION - Coming 9/24/13.

What sparked your interest in becoming a romance writer?
I started reading big romance novels when I was fourteen after my father died. Romances gave me hope in a rather dark time of my life. They showed me that women didn’t have to settle in life, but can work hard to find real happiness. Then I met my husband who believed in me, not just with writing but in everything about me. His love and support helped me to grow into a stronger, more confident woman. And that’s what I love writing about in romance novels—bringing together two people encourage each other to grow and develop in ways they wouldn’t have alone.

What was the first romance novel you read that made an impression on you?
SWEET SAVAGE LOVE by Rosemary Rogers mostly because it was the first “bigger” romance novel that a read. Before that, it was sweet category romances. After that, so many like KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR by Jude Deveraux, THE LION’S LADY by Julie Garwood, OUTLANDER with Diane Gabaldon and I’ll stop or I’ll fill pages with them J

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
I start with an idea of who they are, but they will grow and mature into a better version of my original concept. For me, it’s a matter of really discovering them as I work with them in scenes by putting them in stressful situation and seeing how they react. As I’m writing, I sometimes make really surprising discoveries about my character, and then I have to go back and rewrite the earlier pages. But that’s ok, that’s just part of the process of us (me and my characters) getting to know each other on the intimate level that writing their stories always requires.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?
It’s hard to pick just one, but in this scene below, Kat’s beginning to discover more about Sloane. The set up of the scene is: Sloane’s mentor, Drake, is losing the biggest fight of his life against cancer, and it’s tearing Sloane apart.  This is part of the reason behind the title for Possession: The more Sloane realizes he’s losing Drake, the tighter he needs to hold onto Kat. Here’s a scene toward the beginning of the book. In the early morning, Sloane gets a phone call that upset him. He shut down emotionally on Kat, and went to take a shower, leaving Kat to fend for herself in his house. She goes downstairs to the kitchen and meets Drake. Kat can see Drake is very sick and bakes him muffins. In this part of it, Sloane just walked into the kitchen:
She spun at Sloane’s voice, catching herself on the counter.
He strode into the kitchen, wearing a killer suit and a grim expression. “You’re still here.”
It took everything she had not to snap at him. Keeping it light, she said, “I don’t have a ride, remember?”
He crossed to her and lifted her face. “I didn’t mean that the way it sounded. I came out of the shower and you were gone. I thought maybe you’d left.”
“By stealing your car? Think it out, Sloane. You’ve seen my success rate with getting into a cab.” That had been humiliating, but Sloane had taken it in stride.
“I’d have given you the keys to my car, sugar,” Drake offered. “After the muffins are done.”
“Shut up, Drake. She doesn’t need your car.”
“Yeah? Then why was this gorgeous girl down here while you’re in the shower? What a dumbass.” He snorted. “Good for me, though. I scored blueberry muffins.”
Kat choked on laughter. She liked Drake, she really did.
“Are the muffins done yet?” Sloane drew his thumb across her cheek. “He won’t be able to talk with his mouth full.”
She glanced over at the timer. “Almost.”
“He’s right though.”
“That you’re a dumbass?”
Sloane grinned. “That you’re gorgeous. And yeah, I’m a dumbass.” He swept Kat up, set her on the counter and kissed her.
His warm mouth brushed over hers, driving out everything else, including the fact that they were in his kitchen and giving Drake a front-row view.
Sloane twisted her hair around his hand, tugging her head back and invading her mouth. His taste flooded her, minty toothpaste, coffee and the richer, more addictive flavor of him. She sank her fingers into his hair, tangling her tongue with his.
The sound of the buzzer penetrated her sexual fog. Kat pulled back. “Muffins. Breakfast.”
“I’ll get them,” Drake said. “You two just carry on.”
Sloane’s attention followed Drake as he slowly made his way around the bar.
Kat’s heart hurt at the shadows lurking in Sloane’s eyes, at the heaviness pressing on him. The worry was so evident, she put her hand on his face. “Calories are good,” she said softly. “Any calories he can hold down.”
Sloane’s gaze hit hers, his expression so raw and exposed she could feel his pain. He leaned his forehead against hers. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Me too.” For once, she was taking care of Sloane.

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
It would probably be Kat. She’s very special to me because she’s been through some really rough things, but she doesn’t let it destroy her heart. Kat isn’t bitter. She may be have bitter or self pitying moments, but then she gets over it and moves on with her day. I admire her and hope I could be that strong. Another reason is I’m in love with Sloane J
