[Book Tour] Trouble With Gold by Melinda Dozier #Olympics #Romance #MustRead

Trouble With Gold
by Melinda Dozier
Genre: Contemporary Romance Novella
Release Date: November 20, 2017

US snowboarder and notorious prankster, Ty (Trouble) Madsen is only getting a taste of his own medicine when his Olympic teammates shackle him to a fence wearing nothing but his boxers.  Reception and protocol volunteer, Nadia Hoffman, gets up close and personal with the sexy snowboarder to rescue him, but she's not the kind of girl who lets her hormones get in her way.  A professional performance could help her land her dream job at Olympics Committee Headquarters, but her new assignment supervising the rambunctious US Snowboarding Team is making that difficult.  Can she see behind the snowman in the community center bathroom and into the warm heart of the man everyone calls Trouble?

“Thank God you’re here,” a male’s voice groaned, in English.

Nadia looked across the path toward the stairs ahead of her and saw a very well built, tall man, light brown hair curled around his beanie, with a chiseled chest and tight thighs. Wait a minute. Why could she see his chest and thighs? It was zero degrees Celsius. Why would a man be standing in nothing but his underwear? Her mother always warned her about sickos.

She dug into her purse, searching for her mace – something she carried since her internship in New York last summer. It settled somewhere at the bottom. Great. When she finally needed it, she couldn’t find it.

“Do you mind?” He said, a little louder. “I could use some help.”

“I have mace.” She answered, still searching. “Stay where you are.”

“Not a problem.” He laughed, a deep laugh that sent tingly sensations from head to toe. God, sleep deprivation must be worse than she thought if she had these thoughts about a sicko.

She shook her head and finally held the mace up. The man remained in the same spot. He had a fabulous smile and a few wrinkles at the side of his eyes, from smiling or being out in the sun. He must be an athlete with that tight physique. “Who are you and what are you doing?”

Instead of answering, he let out a laugh all while his teeth chattered. An ache sat in her throat. Poor guy. If his blue lips and frosted hair was any indication, he was beyond cold.

“Are you okay?” She slowly approached the stairs, not sure what the handsome man would do. But, he looked like he was in trouble.

His eyes perused her from top to bottom and then he looked back into her face. “Better now.” He smirked.

Can Sydney put her faith back in God and learn to trust in Grant again before she loses everything she’s gained?

AUTHOR BIO:
Katy Eeten lives in southeast Wisconsin with her husband and their two sons. She works full time in Contract Administration, but her true passion is writing. Blast From Her Past is her first published book. Aside from writing, Katy also enjoys taking walks, baking, and hanging out with her family.

Katy can be found at her WEBSITE, Facebook, and Twitter.

Tell us 5 surprising things about yourself.
1) I can type 113 words per minute.
2) I was a fast-pitch softball pitcher as a teenager, and my team once played the Russian Olympic softball team.
3) I get motion-sickness doing the simplest things, like swinging on a swing (I cannot step foot on a boat without Dramamine!).
4) I am crazy competitive when it comes to games, which I love playing.
5) I once threw out the first pitch at a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game (through a “Student Achievers” program at my school).

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write? They definitely develop as I write. In Blast From Her Past, Justin, Harold and Nana didn’t even exist in my first draft, and Rachel really only played a part in Sydney’s memories. As I re-read and edit what I’ve written, I see the need to flesh out certain sides of my hero and heroine, which often brings out the need for additional minor characters or deeper interactions with those characters.

What type of book have you always wanted to write? A poignant time-travel book where the main character learns something life-altering about herself or her family through her time-traveling abilities. I’m not generally into sci-fi or fantasy, but I love the idea of being able to go back in time and learn from past experiences through the lens of a more mature perspective, and would love to generate that nostalgic, dramatic, gut-wrenching feeling in the hearts of my readers.

What’s the last movie you watched and loved? Passengers with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence (it’s older, but I don’t usually watch movies until they’re well out of the theaters :))

If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why? Sydney’s sister Kate (from my debut novel Blast From Her Past). She’s a Christian with a loving husband and two sweet kids, and is really grounded and content with her life. She is caring, gives good advice, isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind, and has a good sense of humor.

Flirting Questions

What does love feel like? Love feels comforting, content, accepting, beautiful, safe. It has moments of excitement, moments of tenderness, and endures all the moments in between.

What’s an absolute no-no in a relationship? Tearing your partner down for no reason. Words can be damaging, and their effects last. Think before you speak, especially in the heat of an argument. We face enough opposition in this world as it is. No need to add to it with the ones we love. (And cheating, of course, but I feel like that’s a given!)

How did you meet your significant other? My pastor set us up! He thought we’d hit it off so insisted we go on at least one date, and the rest is history (we’ve been married for over 15 years)

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be? The where is less important than who you are with - but I have several European destinations I’d love to see. London, Paris, Ireland, Italy. I would take any of those as long as I’m with my hubby :)

Do you believe in love at first sight? No. I believe in “strong attraction at first sight,” but until you know about someone’s beliefs, character, personality, etc., I don’t think you can truly know it’s love. But I do think you can know pretty early on in a relationship whether you are in love and if it’s meant to be - my husband and I only dated a few months before we got engaged, and were married less than 7 months later.

Flirting Quickies:

Facial hair or clean shaven? Clean shaven

Planner or Panster? Planner

White wine or red? Not a wine drinker

Coffee or tea? Neither … Unless the coffee has a ton of cream and sugar in it

Vanilla or chocolate? Chocolate

Sweet or salty? Sweet (or both!)

Sleep in or get up early? Wish I could sleep in!

Laptop or desktop? Laptop
Beach or mountains? Beach
Winter or summer? Summer
City or Country? City
Clubbing or candlelight dinner? Dinner - any kind of dinner :)
Backpacking or luxury hotel? Don’t need luxury, but not much for roughing it either
Morning or night person? Neither by nature, but having kids has forced me to be both
Christmas or Halloween? Christmas
Optimist or pessimist? Realist

THE LOOK OF LOVE

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she's convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he's home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is--until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love--and protect--her, but will she let him?

FROM THIS MOMENT ON

For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he's planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name - Nico - for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is...or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger - and the sinful promises - in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.

CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE

Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire...and can't stop thinking about.

Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving - and losing - a man with a dangerous job again.

Enjoy the following excerpt from THE LOOK OF LOVE...

Chase almost missed the flickering light off on the right side of the two-lane country road. In the past thirty minutes, he hadn’t passed a single car, because on a night like this, most sane Californians—who didn’t know the first thing about driving safely in inclement weather—stayed home.

Knowing better than to slam on the brakes—he wouldn’t be able to help whomever was stranded on the side of the road if he ended up stuck in the muddy ditch right next to them—Chase slowed down enough to see that there was definitely a vehicle stuck in the ditch.

He turned his brights on to see better in the pouring rain and realized there was a person walking along the edge of the road about a hundred yards up ahead. Obviously hearing his car approach, she turned to face him and he could see her long wet hair whipping around her shoulders in his headlights.

Wondering why she wasn’t just sitting in her car, dry and warm, calling Triple A and waiting for them to come save her, he pulled over to the edge of his lane and got out to try and help her. She was shivering as she watched him approach.

"Are you hurt?"

She covered her cheek with one hand, but shook her head. "No."

He had to move closer to hear her over the sound of the water hitting the pavement in what were rapidly becoming hailstones. Even though he’d turned his headlights off, as his eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness, he was able to get a better look at her face.

Something inside of Chase’s chest clenched tight.

Despite the long, dark hair plastered to her head and chest, regardless of the fact that looking like a drowned rat wasn’t too far off the descriptive mark, her beauty stunned him.

In an instant, his photographer’s eye cataloged her features. Her mouth was a little too big, her eyes a little too wide-set on her face. She wasn’t even close to model thin, but given the way her T-shirt and jeans stuck to her skin, he could see that she wore her lush curves well. In the dark he couldn’t judge the exact color of her hair, but it looked like silk, perfectly smooth and straight where it lay over her breasts.

It wasn’t until Chase heard her say, "My car is definitely hurt, though," that he realized he had completely lost the thread of what he’d come out here to do.

Knowing he’d been drinking her in like he was dying of thirst, he worked to recover his balance. He could already see he’d been right about her car. It didn’t take a mechanic like his brother, Zach, who owned an auto shop—more like forty, but Chase had stopped counting years ago—to see that her shitty hatchback was borderline totaled. Even if the front bumper wasn’t half smashed to pieces by the white farm fence she’d slid into, her bald tires weren’t going to get any traction on the mud. Not tonight, anyway.

If her car had been in a less precarious situation, he probably would have sent her to hang out  in her car while he took care of getting it unstuck. But one of her back tires was hanging precariously over the edge of the ditch.

He jerked his thumb over his shoulder. "Get in my car. We can wait there for a tow truck." He was vaguely aware of his words coming out like an order, but the hail was starting to sting, damn it. Both of them needed to get out of the rain before they froze.

But the woman didn’t move. Instead, she gave him a look that said he was a complete and utter nut-job.

"I’m not getting into your car."

Realizing just how frightening it must be for a lone woman to end up stuck and alone in the middle of a dark road, Chase took a step back from her. He had to speak loudly enough for her to hear him over the hail.

"I’m not going to attack you. I swear I won’t do anything to hurt you."

She all but flinched at the word attack and Chase’s radar started buzzing. He’d never been a magnet for troubled women, wasn’t the kind of guy who thrived on fixing wounded birds. But living with two sisters for so many years meant he could always tell when something was up.

And something was definitely up with this woman, beyond the fact that her car was half-stuck in a muddy ditch.

Wanting to make her feel safe, he held his hands up. "I swear on my father’s grave, I’m not going to hurt you. It’s okay to get into my car." When she didn’t immediately say no again, he pressed his advantage with, "I just want to help you." And he did. More than it made sense to want to help a stranger. "Please," he said. "Let me help you."

She stared at him for a long moment, hail hammering between them, around them, onto them. Chase found himself holding his breath, waiting for her decision. It shouldn’t matter to him what she decided.

But, for some strange reason, it did.

What is your writing environment: I’m kind of a nomad, partly because moving around provides me with a distraction and partly because it helps me to think. Ideally, I write at my desk in the living room, which is covered with inspirational quotes and photos. But since I have a laptop, I move to the dining room when I want to eat and the family room sofa when I want to be comfortable. If it’s nice weather, I’ll sit on the deck under the umbrella. And of course, when my laptop battery runs out, I go wherever my charger happens to be at the moment.

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?: I usually have at least some inkling of my characters before I start writing. I’ll either hear dialog in my head or I’ll see a scene that they are in and write it down. Based on either of those two things, I start to get an idea of what my characters are like. For whatever reason, I’m usually more sure about the hero than the heroine. As I write, I learn more about both of them. And I use Roxanne St. Claire’s method of writing—write the first 100 pages and then go back and edit; write the next 100 pages and then go back to the beginning and edit; and then write to the end. This method allows me to catch up with my characters and fully understand them before I get to the end.

One of your favorite quotes.: You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
What type of book have you always wanted to write?: I’ve always wanted to write a sweeping family saga based loosely on a story about my family. I’ve hesitated to write it, though, because of the amount of research it would require.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?: There is an old Victorian mansion in the next town that was for sale and it had an open house. My daughters and I went and I fell in love with it—the architecture, the history, etc. Since I didn’t have a spare couple of million dollars lying around to purchase and decorate, I decided I’d have to write about it. So it became the setting of my newest book, out yesterday (September 1), In the Moment. The heroine grew up in foster care and the house is the one place she felt most at home. When she grew up, she bought it and is renovating it so that she can raise a family there.
