What was the first romance novel you read that made an impression on you?

I'm pretty sure it was The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I vaguely remember getting it out of a box of garage sale finds my mom brought home one Saturday and sneaking it into my bedroom. Was that a steamy read for a 13-year-old or what?! I think that's probably why I have such a thing for alpha males, angsty plots and capture fantasies…

What is your writing environment.

Noisy! I work from home so I share my office with a rowdy 3-year-old and a Great Dane. If one isn't barking, the other is singing or telling loud stories with crazy sound effects!

Which authors have caught your interest lately? Why?

I've been gobbling up H.M. Ward's backlist. Her reads are the perfect mix of angst and steaminess with a great emotional punch. She's a master of the cliffhanger—much like Sara Fawkes, another writer I'm reading and enjoying right now.

How did you get the idea for this particular novel?

Like most stories I've written, the Her Russian Protector series started from a seed of truth. Like Erin (the heroine of IVAN, the first book) and Benny (the heroine of the second book, DIMITRI,) I know what it's like to have siblings in big trouble. After a weekend watching Eastern Promises and The Mark of Cain, a shockingly bleak documentary filmed inside the Russian prison system, the idea sprouted and became a series of books with intertwining stories about love in all its forms—brother, sisterly and romantic—and the lengths we'll go to protect the ones we love.

What is your favorite scene in your new release?

My favorite scene in DIMITRI would be a mega spoiler so I'll go with me second favorite! I absolutely adore the scene where Dimitri takes Benny to dinner at the Samovar. We get to meet Nikolai through Benny's eyes and see how Ivan and Erin are coming along together. We also get to see Nikolai come to Vivian's rescue!

I've had a long-term lust-at-first-sight relationship with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen since the first moment he popped up on screen during Casino Royale.

What’s your favorite body part of the opposite sex?

Big, strong hands!

What does love feel like?

Oh! That's a complex question because love is constantly changing. The way you love someone in the early days of a relationship (when it's all euphoria and a rush of excitement) is nothing like the steady, strong, deep sensation of loving your partner after you’ve been together a long time. I could sit here all day and list adjectives to describe the awesomeness of love! J

If you could take a romantic trip, where would it be?

I would love to make a return trip to the cozy cabin the Texas Hill Country where we got engaged in 2006. I loved that place!
