[Book Spotlight] Every Move She Makes by Jannine Gallant

New Release!
Every Move She Makes
Jannine Gallant

Blurb:

No matter where she goes, he knows her every move…

Long ago, Rachel Carpenter was a glamorous soap star. She gave it all up to move to Napa Valley with her daughters to open a bookstore near her family vineyard. Her life is safe and dependable, until she encounters Kane Lafferty at a wilderness camp in the rugged High Sierra. A burned-out police detective struggling with his own demons, Kane is instantly attracted to Rachel. And like Rachel, he isn’t sure if he’s ready to open his heart. But everything is about to change…

Someone is watching from the darkness. A fanatic obsessed with Rachel for years has decided to claim what he believes is his. It will be up to Kane to not only protect his new love and her family, but to uncover the identity of the stalker before it’s too late for all of them…

Excerpt:

Rachel was a decent swimmer, but she was no match for Kane. He passed her and was waiting when she reached the far shore.
“It looks like I won.” He pushed a strand of wet hair out of her eyes. “What’s my prize?”
“Your choice.”
Slowly he pulled her against him. The wet cotton bra wasn’t much of a barrier as she hooked her arms around his neck. Skin slid against skin before a searing kiss stole her breath.
“Want a rematch?” His breath came in a gasp.
“You’re on.”
Rachel flipped backward into the water and swam hard enough to reach the shore seconds before he did, then climbed out onto the warm granite.
He flopped down beside her, water running off him in streams. “You beat me. What’s your prize?”
Lying on her stomach, she glanced up and blinked fat droplets off her lashes. “I get to dry off on your shirt.”
He grabbed his shirt, but instead of handing it to her, ran the soft cotton over her back and down her legs. “How’s that?”
“Nice.” She closed her eyes, afraid to see the expression in his. Afraid the temptation to let him do more would destroy her control.
“Turn over.” The words were a whisper in her ear. When she rolled onto her back, he dried her arms and bare stomach. “Look at me, Rachel.”
Slowly, she lifted her lids.
“We can leave now, or we can stay. Your call.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Alison Stuart is an award winning Australian writer of historicals with heart.  Whether duelling with dashing cavaliers or waywards ghosts, her books provide a reader with a meaty plot and characters who have to strive against adversity, always with the promise of happiness together. Alison is a lapsed lawyer who has worked in the military and fire service, which may explain a predisposition to soldier heroes.  She lives with her own personal hero and two needy cats and likes nothing more than a stiff gin and tonic and a walk along the sea front of her home town.  She loves to hear from her readers and can be found at her website, facebook, twitter and Goodreads.

Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?
Although I am an Australian by citizenship, I was born in Kenya in the dying days of the British Empire. I trained and worked for many years as a lawyer in a variety of different areas but by far the most interesting was the time I spent in the armed forces and working for one of the emergency services (I still have a ‘thing’ for fire trucks…and men in uniform). I am now a “recovering” lawyer and proudly put down “writer” as my occupaition. I find I have far more interesting conversations at customs and immigration. I am married to a devilishly handsome hero and have 2 grown sons who have flown the nest so it is just the two of us and are 2 needy cats rattling around the house these days. I live in one of the oldest parts of Melbourne, Australia and although I have lived and travelled in different countries, there is nowhere else I would choose to live.

Please describe your writing environment.
Since my sons left home, my husband and I took over their bedrooms as our offices (none of this boomeranging back home!). As my husband is pathologically untidy and I’m not, we could never share a creative space. I love having a “Room of My Own” (as Virginia Woolf would say). I work on a battered Victorian cedar desk that is ergonomically disastrous but I have had this desk since I was 16 and anything modern and efficient is not an option! My husband built some bookshelves to sit on the desk where I keep my favourite reference books to hand. It is also the room where I have my sewing machine and all my quilting bits and bobs. Definitely MY space!

Do you have a favorite object that is pertinent to your writing?
I have a little pewter statue of an English Civil War soldier which I’ve had for years. He sits on the bookshelf above my computer screen and has travelled the world with me. A few years ago I thought I had lost him and I was devastated because I couldn’t replace him.

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?
I am not a plotter. I will begin with a rough idea of characters and a vague plot but the joy in writing for me is letting the characters tell their own stories. When they start talking back at me I know I am on the right track.

What do you do on a typical writing day?
6.30:  Go for a walk along the foreshore with a friend and her dog
7.30 – 8.30:  Breakfast and chores
8.30:  Sit down at desk, flex fingers, remove cat from desk…check facebook and email.
9.00:  Remove cat from desk. Check website and blog
9.30:  Remove cat from desk, make a cup of tea, read the paper
10.00:  Check facebook and email…remove cat from desk.

….Yes, it is true…I am the world’s greatest procastrinator but when I am in the writing zone I can turn out as much as 10K words in a day. Just takes me a while to get there.

How can readers find out more about you and your books?

Thanks for having me…it’s been fun!

Thanks, Alison!
